Invest in Structured Chess Coaching

Turning school-level interest in chess into real skill, confidence and results, and taking talented juniors from beginner to national and international level.

The challenge

Interest is not the gap

Across South Africa, many children learn chess at school, but very few receive structured coaching that turns that interest into real skill, confidence and results. Talented juniors often hit a ceiling because quality coaching is patchy and hard to reach.

The gap is consistent, well-managed coaching and a clear pathway to the next level.

What ACL does

Structured coaching, and the capacity behind it

Chess in schools

Reliable, structured school coaching programmes.

Private coaching

One-to-one development tailored to each player.

High Performance programmes

Junior, Senior and Elite bands with weekly online training events.

Coach management & training for trainers

We recruit, train and manage coaches to one standard.

Why our approach is different

Quality that holds as we grow

We develop coaches as well as players.

ACL trains and manages its own coaches, so every school and every learner receives the same standard of coaching.

Progress is tracked game by game.

Each player's games are recorded and reviewed with them, so development is visible and measurable rather than assumed.

A complete pathway.

One organisation takes a learner from beginner, through structured High Performance bands, to national and international competition.

Who benefits

Learners, parents and schools

Learners

Gain focus, confidence and genuine competitive skill, with a clear route to national and international level.

Milestone · December 2026

Competing on the continental stage

Our academy squad of 8 players is registered for the 2026 African Schools Individual Chess Championships in Windhoek, Namibia, 6–14 December 2026: a direct demonstration of the pathway from structured coaching to international competition.

The opportunity

What we're asking for

ACL has a working model: structured programmes, managed coaches and progress tracking. We are seeking investors and strategic partners to help us scale it.

More schools

Extend our school coaching programmes to reach more learners.

More coaches trained

Grow our training-for-trainers and coach management capacity so quality holds as we expand.

More juniors reaching national and international level

Strengthen the High Performance pathway and competition exposure.

Better progress-tracking tools

Invest in the systems that record and review every player's development.

Why get involved

Let's grow it together

  • • Back young African talent with a clear, structured pathway.
  • • Support a model built on coach quality and consistency, not one-off sessions.
  • • Help develop tomorrow's thinkers: focused, confident young people.

We welcome conversations with investors, sponsors and partners who want to help scale structured chess coaching across South Africa and beyond.
