Today's club session was highly engaging, with an instructive middlegame lesson followed by two competitive tournaments.
📚 Lesson Focus: The Useless Bishop
We studied the middlegame concept of a useless bishop—a bishop that may still be on the board but cannot effectively defend its own position's weaknesses.
The players learned how to play against such a bishop by restricting its activity, fixing weaknesses on squares it cannot protect, improving their pieces and patiently creating a second target. The key lesson was not to rush, but to gradually increase the pressure while preventing the opponent from finding counterplay.
This is a practical theme that appears regularly in our games, and the players were very engaged in understanding both how to exploit a useless bishop and how to avoid ending up with one.
🏆 Tournament Results
We divided the players into two rating groups:
- Junior Performers: Under 1300

Most importantly, the players were thinking deeply, learning new ideas and fighting hard in every round. 👏♟️
