Club chess in Cape Town produces a lot of data — fixtures, results, board-by-board scores, division tables — and most of it has historically lived in scattered PDFs, WhatsApp groups and spreadsheets.

Shaun Somai, President of African Chess Lounge, has built a tool that brings it into one place. The Cape Town Chess League tracker is live now at cptchessleague.netlify.app.

It gives players, parents and captains a single place to follow the league — standings, fixtures, results and team performance.

Why It Matters

League chess rewards consistency over months, not single results. When a player can see their own board record next to their team's position in the table, the season becomes something they can track and reason about — not just a series of Saturdays.

For parents, it answers the two questions we get most often: who is my child playing, and how is the team doing?

How African Chess Lounge Is Using It

African Chess Lounge has 42 players entered across three teams in the 2026 season. We'll be pointing our students and their families to this tool for the rest of the campaign.

Built for the Community

Shaun built this in his own time, for the chess community. Bookmark it, use it, and tell him if it's useful.
