The chess community is abuzz with excitement as we gear up for the 2nd Young Minds Chess Classic 2024! Following the resounding success of the inaugural event in 2023, we are thrilled to invite young chess enthusiasts to another thrilling weekend of high-performance coaching, exhilarating tournaments, and invaluable learning experiences. This year's event promises to be even more spectacular, providing a platform for budding chess talents to shine and develop their skills.

Dates: August 9-11, 2024Location: Curro Durbanville Primary School, Cape Town, South Africa


Event Highlights

Day 1: Training Workshop & Blitz Tournament (August 9, 2024)

  • Beginners Workshop: "5 Areas You Need to Know to Cross 1300" (10:00-13:00, Cost: R100)

  • Intermediates and Advanced Workshop: "What We Can Learn from Magnus Carlsen" (10:00-13:00, Cost: R150)

  • Blitz Tournament: Starts at 14:00, 7 rounds, Chess SA rated, Entry Fee: R100. Prizes ranging from R200 to R1000

Day 2 & 3: Classical Tournaments (August 10-11, 2024)

  • Advanced Section: (1800+ Elo, 5 rounds, Entry Fee: R300, Prize: R5000)

  • Intermediate Section: (1300-1799 Elo, 5 rounds, Entry Fee: R200, Prize: R3750)

  • Junior Section: (12 years and below, 5 rounds, Entry Fee: R200)

  • Parent Section: (0-1300 Elo, 5 rounds, Entry Fee: R100)




Meet the Coaches

Our coaching team is led by the esteemed FIDE Instructor Mr. Reuben Salimu, a renowned chess coach with a track record of producing over 20 titled players and training more than 350 new coaches. Assisting him will be FIDE National Instructor Mr. Moses Mutipforo from Zimbabwe, along with experienced coaches like Minenhle Mncwabe, Natasha Joubert, Zakkie Jacobs, and Club President Shaun Somai. This is an extraordinary opportunity to receive guidance from some of the best minds in chess.
